It became known about a fraudulent scheme with iPhone blocking via Telegram
Scammers began to deceive iPhone phone owners using various modifications of the Telegram messenger, allowing them to lock the device. This was reported on March 16 in the information security company F6.
As TASS clarified, the attackers are actively using rumors about the possible blocking of Telegram. In the advertisements, they suggest installing supposedly improved versions of the messenger with "additional features", including a built-in VPN, an anonymous number, an incognito mode, and a Premium subscription without payment.
Experts have identified several similar modifications distributed under the names DarkGram, HoloGram, ToxicGram, HakoGram, AstroGram and Doxogram.
According to the company, potential victims are offered to install a mod via a Telegram bot. The user is told that the app is not available in the App Store, so they need to download it by logging in with a third-party Apple ID. To do this, the attackers transfer the login and password from someone else's account.
After a person binds a device to this account, the scammers block the account and the gadget itself. A message with contact details appears on the screen. The attackers then demand money to unlock the device.
According to experts, iPhone and iPad owners are most often asked to pay from 10,000 to 60,000 rubles.
