Araqchi: Iran discusses safe passage through Strait of Hormuz with countries
Tehran is negotiating with several states to ensure the safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced on March 15 by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
"We have been approached by several countries wishing to ensure safe passage for their vessels. And this decision should be made by our military, and they have already decided to let a group of ships belonging to different countries pass," he said in an interview with CBS News.
In addition, Araqchi added that at the moment there are no proposals to resolve the conflict with the United States and Israel. He also noted that the Iranian side has never asked for negotiations or a cease-fire.
The press service of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on March 11 that Iran would not allow any oil tankers related to the United States and its allies to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Araqchi added on March 14 that the strait remains open to navigation, but is restricted to ships of the United States, Israel and their allies.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on March 9 that oil production, which is tied to the Strait of Hormuz, risks stopping completely in the coming month.
