A traffic accident occurred on the understudy of the Volokolamsk highway in the north-west of Moscow on March 15. Two trams collided with each other. The causes of the accident, the presence of victims and the consequences are described in the Izvestia article.
What happened
According to the Izvestia source, the accident occurred in the area of house No. 1, on Vodnikov Street. Traffic from Svobody Street to the Volokolamsk highway in the direction of the center was blocked.
Victims
According to initial reports, 13 people were injured, including two children. However, later the press service of the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) clarified that the number of victims had increased to 22 people.
Circumstances of the accident
In the metropolitan Department of Transport, the cause of the accident was called a malfunction in the operation of the car control system. The tramcar manufacturer's service company is conducting an additional survey of all similar systems in all wagons in this series in order to eliminate similar situations in the future.
The department also noted that the tram was operated by an experienced driver with 23 years of experience, who acted professionally in an emergency situation.
A criminal case was opened into the incident under Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles"). It was noted that the head of the Main Investigative Department (GSU) of the Investigative Committee of Russia in Moscow should submit a report on the investigation.
