Alexei Pushkov, a member of the Federation Council Committee on constitutional Legislation, said on March 15 that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky was worried that the European Union (EU) might start buying oil from Russia.

"Zelensky is most concerned about whether the European Union will collectively decide to start buying Russian oil again in an environment where about 22-25% of it no longer enters world markets due to the Gulf war. He understands perfectly well that ending the boycott of Russian oil and then gas by the EU is a step away from war, away from thoughtless support for Ukraine," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

According to him, it can be assumed that the statement by Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever caused serious alarm in Kiev. Previously, such ideas were voiced mainly by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, but now similar signals are coming from the head of the Belgian government. This is especially noticeable against the background of the fact that so far Brussels has consistently supported the common line of the EU leadership.

On March 14, Orban declared the EU's inability to overcome the energy crisis without oil from the Russian Federation. The politician noted that the situation in the Middle East has exacerbated the shortage of raw materials and provoked a sharp jump in fuel prices in Europe. At the same time, he pointed out the inconsistency of the Western allies.

Earlier in the day, Orban stated that it was impossible to overcome the energy crisis without energy supplies from the Russian Federation. He noted that Europeans are tolerating rising energy prices, and industry is collapsing in the region.
