An attempt by European diplomats to join the negotiation process on Ukraine in February allegedly ended with a harsh refusal from Moscow. This was reported on March 15 by the Financial Times (FT), citing diplomatic sources.

French advisers Emmanuel Bonn and Bertrand Bushwalter visited the Russian capital to seek a say for Kiev's European allies in peaceful settlement issues.

However, the initiative allegedly met with Moscow's sharp rejection on this issue.

On the same day, Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, announced the visit of the French representative to the Russian Federation for contacts on Ukraine. He stressed that Russia remains open to a diplomatic settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
