Callas called the shift of U.S. attention from Ukraine to Iran a problem.
Washington's shifting geopolitical priorities from the Ukrainian conflict to the aggravation of the situation around Iran poses serious challenges for the US allies. This was announced on March 15 by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas.
At the moment, there is an open competition between Eastern Europe and the Middle East for American military equipment and equipment. The complexity of the situation was confirmed by Callas.
In an interview with the Financial Times (FT) newspaper, she stated that the change in the vector of American policy leads to a shortage of resources.
"This shift in priorities creates difficulties due to the struggle for the same types of weapons," Kallas said.
She also stressed that currently the United States' attention is almost entirely focused on the Middle East agenda.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that the pause in negotiations on Ukraine was due to a change in US priorities. According to him, Europe does not want to help the peace process, but spends all its efforts on supporting the Ukrainian conflict.
On March 14, US President Donald Trump said he was surprised by the reluctance of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to reach a peace deal. In addition, Trump added that it is much more difficult to negotiate with the Ukrainian leader than with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
On March 5, the American president said that Zelensky was an obstacle to the peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. According to the US president, Zelensky does not seek negotiations on the conflict.
