The turnout in the constitutional referendum in Kazakhstan was 19.21% in three hours

The turnout for voting on the constitutional amendment in Kazakhstan in the first three hours was 19.21%. This was announced on March 15 at a briefing by member of the Central commission of the referendum of the Republic of Kazakhstan Lyazzat Suindik.

"As of 10:00 (08:00 Moscow time), 2,393,844 people had received ballots across the country, which amounted to 19.21% of the number included in the voting lists," TASS quoted Suindik as saying.

The lowest turnout was recorded in Alma Ata and amounted to 9.54%, while the highest was in the Karaganda region, where 26.64% of voters voted.

Voting for the adoption of a new constitution started in Kazakhstan on March 15. It is specified that polling stations will be open until 20:00 local time (18:00 Moscow time). Citizens over the age of 18 who are included in the voter lists have the right to vote in Kazakhstan.

The text of the new constitution of Kazakhstan was published on February 12 for citizens' review in the newspaper Egemen Kazakhstan. It was noted that if the new basic law is adopted, it will enter into force on July 1, 2026.
