The regions of Russia with the largest reserves of metals have become known
The Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Murmansk Region have become leaders in reserves of various metals in Russia. This was reported on March 15 by the RIA Novosti news agency, referring to open data.
These regions have some of the largest reserves of nine types of metals in the country.
The Krasnoyarsk Territory has the largest reserves of cobalt, manganese ores, copper, nickel and platinoids. It also ranks second in Russia in gold and lead, and third in nepheline ores (which are used to produce aluminum) and silver.
The Oktyabrskoye and Talnakhskoye copper-nickel sulfide deposits, which account for about 40% of Russia's cobalt, 27% copper, more than 50% nickel, and almost 60% platinum reserves, are actively being developed in the region. The Chuktukonskoye and Porozhinskoye manganese ore deposits, which account for more than a quarter of all reserves in Russia, are also located here. Chuktukonskoye is also one of the most important deposits of rare earth metals.
The Murmansk region is the leader in reserves of lithium, nepheline ores, rare earth metals and tantalum, and also ranks second in nickel and niobium, third in zirconium and fourth in cobalt.
The Kolmozerskoye and Polmostundrovskoye lithium deposits, which account for almost 35% of all Russian reserves of this metal, are being prepared for production in the region. The Murmansk Region is also developing the Khibiny group of deposits, which contains more than 49% of the total reserves of apatite-nepheline ores in the country.
Oleg Kazanov, head of Rosnedra, said on March 6 that the pace of Russia's reproduction of gold and silver reserves is outstripping their production. According to him, the Russian Federation has increased 542 tons of reserves, but production in 2024 was 477.6 tons.
