The US Department of War announced the names of six servicemen of the American Air Force (Air Force) who died in the crash of the KC-135 aircraft in Iraq. This was reported on March 15 by the Reuters news agency, citing data from the Pentagon.
According to the US military, three of the dead — Major John A. Klinner, Captain Ariana G. Savino and Technical Sergeant Ashley B. Pruitt — served as part of the 6th Air Refueling Wing based at MacDill Air Force Base near Tampa.
Three more soldiers — Captain Seth R. Koval, Captain Curtis J. Angst and Technical Sergeant Tyler H. Simmons served with the 121st Air Refueling Wing stationed at the Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base in Columbus.
The crash of the KC-135 tanker aircraft in Iraq became known on March 13. CENTCOM stressed that the loss of the aircraft was not caused by enemy or friendly fire. Later it became known that all six crew members died in the crash.
On March 14, the US Air Force reported that the American KC-135 tanker aircraft that crashed in western Iraq was not equipped with parachutes or an ejection system. It is clarified that initially the aircraft was equipped with parachutes, but in 2008 the US Air Force abandoned their use. This decision is due to the fact that it is extremely difficult to successfully leave such an aircraft with a parachute.
