An earthquake was recorded off the coast of the Kuril Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of the southern Kuril Islands. This was announced on March 15 by the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Elena Semenova.

According to her, the epicenter of the seismic event was located 150 km from the island of Simushir.

"Its source was at a depth of 77 km," Semenova added in an interview with RIA Novosti

It is specified that the tsunami alert was not announced.
