A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was recorded in the Pacific Ocean near the coast of the southern Kuril Islands. This was announced on March 15 by the head of the Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk seismic station, Elena Semenova.
According to her, the epicenter of the seismic event was located 150 km from the island of Simushir.
"Its source was at a depth of 77 km," Semenova added in an interview with RIA Novosti

On March 8, the Kamchatka branch of the Federal State Budgetary Scientific Institution of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences" reported that an earthquake of magnitude 6.5 was recorded off the coast of Kamchatka.
