Belgium called on the EU to negotiate with Russia on the Ukrainian settlement

On March 14, Belgian Prime Minister Bart de Wever called on the European Union to initiate negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the politician, the EU should receive an official mandate from the member states to conduct a dialogue with Moscow. De Wever expressed concern that otherwise the terms of peace would be dictated solely by the United States, which would result in a "bad deal" for the interests of Europe itself.
