Major U.S. automotive trade organizations have called on President Donald Trump's administration to keep Chinese automakers out of the country, potentially complicating Trump's future visit to China. This was reported on March 14 by the Reuters news agency.

Five automotive groups representing automakers, car dealers, and parts manufacturers have called for the preservation of the U.S. Department of Commerce's cybersecurity regulation from 2025, which effectively bars almost all Chinese vehicles from entering the U.S. market.

The groups expressed "serious concern about China's continued efforts to dominate the global automotive industry."

"We urge the administration to stop any attempts by Chinese manufacturers to circumvent existing restrictions by setting up production facilities in the United States," the letter says.

The article notes that the Chinese Embassy in Washington criticized the letter, saying that Chinese-made cars are popular all over the world "not because of so-called unfair practices, but because of technological innovations and excellent quality."

On January 19, the WSJ learned about Trump's desire to visit China in the first 100 days after the inauguration. According to the newspaper, Trump's possible trip will be aimed at deepening relations with Chinese President Xi Jinping, which have been strained by the threat to impose higher duties on Chinese imports.

Earlier, on January 17, it became known about a telephone conversation between Trump and Xi Jinping. At the same time, it was reported that the Chinese leader would miss the inauguration of the US president-elect on January 20. Later, Trump confirmed that a telephone conversation with the Chinese president had taken place.
