- EU ambassadors extended sanctions against Russians and companies from the Russian Federation for six months
On March 14, the ambassadors of the 27 European Union (EU) countries agreed to extend personal sanctions against more than 2.6 thousand Russian individuals and legal entities.
The restrictive measures have been extended for another six months, despite attempts by a number of countries to exclude individual businessmen. According to TASS, citing a source in Brussels, a compromise was reached without any exceptions from the list.
"The permanent Representatives [of the 27 EU countries in Brussels] have reached a compromise on extending the blacklist against Russia until September 15. This decision does not provide for exceptions from the blacklist," the source said.
On March 13, French President Emmanuel Macron pointed out the immutability of France's position on sanctions against Russia. He noted that the increase in oil prices due to the escalation of the conflict in the Middle East should in no case lead to a revision of the position on sanctions against Russia.
On March 10, US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would lift sanctions against the oil sector of a number of countries in order to take control of rising energy prices amid the war in Iran. He noted that if a "lasting peace" is established, sanctions may not have to be renewed.
On March 12, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that the withdrawal of oil and petroleum products from Russia from sanctions was aimed at reducing the cost of energy resources on world markets.
