The United States hopes for success, but it is unlikely that they will be able to ensure control over the Strait of Hormuz. So, on March 14, retired American military analyst Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen commented on the dispatch of 5,000 American Marines to the Middle East.

"It definitely looks like a show of force, either as an attempt to strengthen the group, or to provide humanitarian assistance — or for something else. There can be many reasons. But yes, definitely because the situation has gotten out of control, and I think they are worried," the political scientist said.

The analyst noted that Washington is trying to establish control over the Strait of Hormuz in this way. He added that the second reason for the transfer of soldiers may be the desire of the United States to seize Iran's main oil refinery. Rasmussen stressed that both of these options are very risky and unwise.

Rasmussen said a day earlier that Iran can keep the Strait of Hormuz closed for several months due to its superiority in missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as well as its convenient geographical location. The analyst believes that the United States will have to take drastic measures, otherwise Iran will continue to control the situation.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on March 13 that Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth approved sending additional marine forces to the Middle East, including an expeditionary force, which usually includes several warships and 5,000 fighters. According to the newspaper's sources, some of the Marines have already arrived in the Middle East.
