Toronto Maple Leafs and USA national team forward Auston Matthews is out for the rest of the current season due to an injury sustained in the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match against the Anaheim Ducks. This was announced on March 14 by the press service of the Canadian club.

"Medical diagnostics revealed that the hockey player suffered damage to the medial collateral ligament of the knee and a bruise of the quadriceps femoral muscle," the Telegram channel said.

The injury occurred after a forceful reception by Anaheim captain Radko Gudas towards the end of the second third of the match. Gudas received a five-minute heavy penalty for a knee strike and was sent off for the rest of the match. Matthews could not immediately get up after the collision and left the ice.

A few minutes before the incident, the striker scored his 27th goal of the season, ending a goalless streak of 12 matches. In total, the 28-year-old American has played 60 games and scored 53 points this season.

Russian striker Kirill Kaprizov set an NHL record for the Minnesota Wild on March 3. The achievement was achieved as a result of the match against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
