Armenian court extends house arrest of businessman Karapetyan

The Anti-Corruption Court of Armenia has issued a decision to extend the house arrest of businessman Samvel Karapetyan for a month. This was announced on March 13 by his lawyer Aram Vardevanyan.

Karapetyan, who is accused in Armenia of calling for the overthrow of power in the republic and financial fraud, returned from the Yerevan detention center on January 18. Dozens of citizens, despite the bad weather conditions, gathered to meet the businessman at his mansion in Yerevan.

The Russian businessman's "Our Way" movement registered the "Strong Armenia" party in Armenia the next day. According to the electronic register, the party was registered by Aleksan Aleksanyan, Ashot Farsyan and Lena Matevosyan, members of the "In Our Way" movement. According to the press secretary, the party was needed for the political realization of the ideas that underlie the movement.

On March 6, Sputnik Armenia reported on the detention in Yerevan of lawyer Ruben Hakobyan, representing the interests of former Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Russian businessman Samvel Karapetyan. According to available information, Hakobyan is charged with allegedly exerting pressure on a witness in one of the criminal cases unrelated to politics.
