The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, approved the dispatch of additional US marine forces to the Middle East, including an expeditionary force, which usually includes several warships and 5,000 fighters. This was reported on March 13 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.

"Hegseth approved the request of the US Central Command, responsible for American forces in the Middle East, to form a rapid reaction landing force and an attached Marine expeditionary unit, usually consisting of several warships and 5,000 Marines and sailors," the publication says.

According to the newspaper's sources, some of the Marines have already arrived in the Middle East.

Fox News reported on March 13 that the United States plans to launch a "strong strike" against Iran over the next week. According to the head of the White House, Donald Trump, Washington has already caused significant damage to Tehran, which "will take years to recover."

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on March 9 that the goal of the United States mission in Iran is to destroy Tehran's ability to launch missiles. He stressed that the operation is carried out with "overwhelming force and high precision." In addition, the diplomat called the Iranian government a terrorist regime.
