Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (NSDC) On March 13, Ali Larijani of the Islamic Republic of Iran responded to Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth's criticism of Iran's new supreme leader Mojtab Khamenei by recalling the island of American financier Jeffrey Epstein, who was convicted of sexual crimes.

"Mr. Hegseth! Our leaders have been and remain among the people. And your leaders? On Epstein's Island!" he wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

Hegseth wrote earlier in the day that Iranian leaders are hiding in shelters underground, "trembling with fear, like rats do."

In addition, the head of the Pentagon said that the US military is aware of Khamenei's injury. Answering a question about the new ayatollah's address to the nation on March 12, Hegseth suggested that the failure of the country's supreme leader to appear in either the video or audio format was due to the fact that Khamenei was allegedly "scared, wounded and lacks legitimacy."

On March 12, the new supreme leader of Iran delivered his first address to the nation after taking office. The text of the appeal was read out in a female voice and broadcast on television. In his speech, the new ayatollah promised not to give up revenge for the blood of the martyrs, stressing that it was not only about the death of the previous leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
