- The Russian Embassy in Sweden announced the detention of the Sea Owl I vessel due to the technical situation.
The Sea Owl I vessel was detained in Sweden due to issues of technical condition and compliance with environmental requirements, and there are no complaints against the ship's crew. This was announced on March 13 by Russian Ambassador to Stockholm Sergey Belyaev.
"According to preliminary data, the vessel was detained due to questions from the Swedish authorities regarding its technical condition and compliance with environmental safety requirements. At this stage, the Swedes have no claims directly against the crew members," the ambassador told TASS.
He added that the staff of the diplomatic mission continues to work to ensure respect for the rights of the detained sailors and that they will receive all necessary consular assistance.
As noted by "Gazeta.Ru", the tanker is on the sanctions lists of several countries, including the European Union (EU).
On the same day, the Swedish Coast Guard near the city of Trelleborg took control of the tanker Sea Owl I under the Comorian flag. Daniel Stanling, Deputy head of the Coast Guard's Operations Department, noted that the Coast Guard had grounds to intervene due to the high level of threat to maritime security.
