- The analyst named a way for the United States to take control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The United States may set up an external blockade of the Strait of Hormuz to cut off Iran's oil supplies. Retired American military analyst, Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen, told about this on Friday, March 13.
According to the expert, this would be an economic disaster for everyone, but he admitted that US President Donald Trump could do something similar.
"Setting up a blockade further across the strait may be the most likely strategy," the expert suggested in an interview with Lenta.Ru .
Rasmussen added that the United States could decide to send ships to escort tankers, but the American fleet could become an easy target for Iranian troops. Another option is to send the US Navy into the strait itself and completely close the passage to any ships. But it is also dangerous because of the capabilities of the Iranian army, he noted.
Earlier, CBS News TV channel, citing American officials, reported that Iran is preparing to install naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. To do this, the Iranian military can use small vessels, each of which can carry from two to three mines. According to Western intelligence estimates, the Islamic Republic may have between 2 and 6 thousand mines in service.
On the same day, the leaders of the Group of Seven (G7) countries appealed to US President Donald Trump to end the military operation against Iran as soon as possible amid huge economic losses due to restrictions on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, RT reports. At the same time, Trump reassured his interlocutors, saying that the situation in the strait is improving and commercial vessels should soon sail through it again.
In turn, Alexander Akimov, a member of the Digoria expert club, said in an interview with NSN that Britain wants to end the American war in the Middle East more than anyone, but it will not be able to reach an agreement with the United States.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ismail Bagai, noted on March 12 that ships that want to use the Strait of Hormuz must coordinate their passage with the Iranian naval forces. He also added that the security of the Strait of Hormuz is of vital importance to the country. According to him, Iran, having the longest coastline in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, has always invested in protecting this strategically important waterway.
