- The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on the use by fraudsters of a scheme with fake subpoenas
The scammers call citizens, introduce themselves as court employees and state that they allegedly need to come for documents that have been received electronically through Gosuslugi. This was announced on March 13 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"To confirm their identity, they [the scammers] ask for the SMS code, which allows them to access the user's account," the agency's Telegram channel says.
Due to the increased incidence of fraud, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs recommended that citizens double-check any information about subpoenas and court documents, referring exclusively to verified and official communication channels.
Prior to that, on March 11, the UBK of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia warned that fraudsters began sending emails with QR codes under the guise of the Federal Tax Service (FTS). Citizens receive notifications about unpaid taxes or arrears, which suggest that they quickly solve the problem by clicking on the QR code for payment. The Interior Ministry recommended checking information only through a personal account on the official website of the Federal Tax Service, not following QR codes from letters from unknown senders and not entering personal data on unverified pages.
