CSKA was fined 1 million rubles for the incident with Colombian player Cordoba
The CSKA football Club (FC) was fined 1 million rubles for the behavior of their fans, who, during the semi-final match of the Russian Premier League (RPL) Cup of Russia, insulted John Cordoba, a 32-year-old Colombian striker of FC Krasnodar. This was announced on March 13 by the head of the Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union (KDK RFU). Artur Grigoryants.
"The decision is as follows: for committing acts by viewers aimed at humiliating human dignity on the grounds of race, CSKA will be fined 1 million rubles," Match TV quoted him as saying.
The relevant decision, Grigoryants clarified, was made after Krasnodar sent a letter to the court asking for an assessment of the incident, which was recorded by its goalkeeper Stanislav Agkatsev and team boss Eduard Gikaev. The named witnesses stated that they had heard insulting shouts against Cordoba and his nationality from the lower tiers of the stands during the second half.
An investigation conducted on the raised video materials from the game showed that during the entire game, two episodes were indeed revealed, which were pointed out by the Krasnodar FC players. In the sector where "not shouts, but hoots" were recorded, there were about seven to eight people, whose identities are now being established. If these citizens are identified, they will be brought to administrative responsibility.
The match between CSKA and Krasnodar, during which this incident was recorded, ended with a 3-1 victory for the Army on March 4. After leaving the field, the players of the losing team broke down the door in the locker room of their opponents' stadium. At the same time, it became known that during the meeting, CSKA fans showed racism, expressed in insulting shouts. The victorious FC announced the day after the incident that it had launched an internal investigation into what had been revealed.
