The Sollers Group is preparing to launch a new production of steering wheels, airbags and seat belts, as well as electronic control units at the UAZ industrial site. As part of the project, technologies that have no analogues in Russia will be used for the first time, the company said in a statement received by Izvestia on March 13.

Domestic magnesium alloy will be used for casting steering wheel frames, and laser cutting and sewing of materials will be used for airbags. The production of passive security components will be set up at the site of Components of the Security System LLC, a subsidiary of PJSC Sollers.

The company is currently undergoing commissioning, and a pilot batch of products has been produced and submitted for validation testing. The start of serial production is scheduled for April 2026. The total investment in the project is 1.5 billion rubles, of which 1.2 billion rubles were provided by the Industrial Development Fund (EDF) in the form of a concessional loan.

According to Nikolai Sobolev, CEO of Sollers, preparations for the launch of the production of passive safety system components in Ulyanovsk are one of the stages of a large—scale investment program. The total investment in the development of the Ulyanovsk site until 2027 will amount to 18 billion rubles. Major projects include the launch of production of the Sollers S9 SUV and the UAZ family of cars with new powertrains, a new pressing plant and the construction of a paint complex.

Earlier that day, it was reported that the Tolyatti enterprise Polad had launched the production of automotive mastics and adhesives at a production site in Otradnoye, Samara region. The materials are used in the assembly process of such domestic cars as Lada, UAZ and Gazelle.
