Blogger Lercek was hospitalized for chemotherapy
Blogger Valeria Chekalina, known under the pseudonym Lercek, was taken to a medical facility to begin treatment. This was announced on March 12 by her partner Luis Squicciarini.
"Today we were admitted to the clinic to begin chemotherapy as soon as possible tomorrow. Well done, Lera! I'm positive! And I am grateful for all your support," he wrote on his Instagram account (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
Squicciarini also posted videos showing the blogger being transported in a wheelchair through the corridors of the clinic. He specified that medical procedures will begin in the near future.
On the same day, it was reported that the court hearing in the Lercek case could be postponed due to her cancer treatment. On March 11, it became known that Chekalina had started treatment at the state cancer center. At the same time, lawyer Maxim Blinov told Izvestia that the blogger could be released from punishment due to the presence of the disease. Before that, Squicciarini announced on March 8 that she had cancer cells. In addition, she underwent spinal surgery due to the destruction of several vertebrae.
On December 1, Lercek pleaded not guilty to withdrawing funds abroad and noted that she did not understand the essence of the charges. In turn, her ex-husband Artem Chekalin admitted that he was guilty of committing a tax crime, but had nothing to do with the withdrawal of funds from Russia.
On November 24, 2025, the Gagarin Court of Moscow extended the house arrest of both Chekalina and her ex-husband for six months. At the same time, Lercek confirmed her pregnancy and named the father of the child. It turned out to be Squicciarini. In addition, the blogger is raising three children with her ex-husband.
