Likhachev announced Russia's readiness to lower Iran's uranium enrichment level
Russia is ready to resolve the issue of Iran's enriched uranium and return to Tehran uranium of a lower, even natural level of enrichment, which is suitable for use in the field of peaceful atom. This was announced on March 13 by Alexey Likhachev, head of the Rosatom State Corporation.
"What we proposed and our proposal is still on the table in terms of resolving this issue — we are ready to take this uranium and return lower—enriched or naturally enriched uranium to Iran for work in the field of peaceful atomization," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
The Russian state corporation, as Likhachev has already noted, has already proven in practice the technologies of the so—called "dilution" - reducing the degree of uranium enrichment.
On February 17, the Iranian authorities expressed their readiness to suspend uranium enrichment and consider exporting part of the reserves outside the country as part of a potential agreement with the United States. Russia is being considered as a possible intermediary for the export of stocks.
On February 19, Likhachev reported that Russia was ready to accept Iran's enriched uranium if there were agreements between the republic and the United States. He noted that Rosatom has the technological capabilities to export uranium, and Russia already has similar experience in cooperation with Iran. The state corporation will also maintain the priority of implementing the Bushehr NPP in the republic.
