Organized crime group activity on embezzlement in the banking sector has been suppressed in the Chelyabinsk region

The Kalininsky District Court of Chelyabinsk found guilty members of an organized criminal group (OCG) specializing in fraudulent embezzlement of funds in the banking sector. This was announced on March 13 by the press service of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region.

Four criminal cases have been investigated against nine defendants under Part 4 of Article 159 ("Fraud") and Part 2 of Article 172 ("Illegal banking activities") The Criminal Code of Russia.

During the joint operational search work of the FSB of Russia and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the region, it was established that in 2020, members of the organized crime group stole funds from Alfa-Bank JSC in the amount of more than 35 million rubles. To do this, the group members used the executive inscriptions of notaries and vulnerabilities in the payment system.

The organizer of the organized criminal group was sentenced by the court to imprisonment for a term of five years and six months to be served in a correctional colony of general regime. The second defendant received five years and six months of probation with a probation period of four years, the other two will spend three years in a penal colony with a probation period of four years. The remaining members of the organized criminal group were convicted in 2024-2025, but the verdict has not yet entered into force, the press service said.

On March 6, in St. Petersburg, operatives of the economic police, together with the regional FSB, suppressed the activities of an organized criminal group engaged in illegal banking activities. The scheme was led by three female residents of the city aged 48 to 55, who served as accountants of a shadow bank. It was established that from 2022 to 2025, the amount of funds spent through the organization exceeded 250 million rubles, and the profit of the criminals amounted to approximately 38.5 million rubles.
