Ex-General Motors plant in St. Petersburg may start production of Exeed cars
The former General Motors plant, which is located in St. Petersburg's Shushary and renamed AGM, can begin assembling the Exeed TXL crossover. The Chinese Cars portal announced this on March 13 in its Telegram channel.
The publication made this conclusion after examining the declarations of conformity required for vehicle certification and Vehicle Type Approval (OTT). The documents are issued for the Exeed TXL crossover, which is also listed under the name Esteo. It is noted that the name Esteo has already been found in the certificates of the former Mercedes-Benz plant in the Moscow region.
The General Motors plant was opened in St. Petersburg in 2008. The site was mothballed in 2015 after the departure of the American concern. In 2020, Hyundai bought it, where the Korean concern planned to produce Hyundai Tucson and Palisade models, as well as Kia Sportage.
In early 2024, Art Finance acquired the former Hyundai plant, which was later renamed the AGR Automobile Plant. It also acquired two production sites in St. Petersburg: a plant in the Kamenka industrial zone and a plant in the Shushary industrial zone (formerly the GM plant), which was renamed AGM.
Earlier, on February 26, it was officially reported that AGR Holding and Defetoo had completed the technical re-equipment of the production site in Shushary, formerly owned by General Motors (GM). It organizes the production of a full cycle of cars of the Russian brand Jeland.
