The urologist spoke about the consequences of chronic prostatitis
Chronic prostatitis is a disease that can lead to sexual dysfunction and other very serious health problems. Philip Kostyunin, a urologist and andrologist at SM Clinic, explained to Izvestia on March 17 why prostate inflammation cannot be ignored.
According to the expert, the main threat of chronic prostatitis lies in the latent course of the disease. Under the mask of chronic prostatitis, malignant tumors of the prostate gland can often be hidden, since in the early stages the symptoms and manifestations of these pathologies are minimal and similar to each other.
"Among the factors that increase the risk of the disease, the doctor identified hypothermia, sexual infections, alcohol abuse, sedentary lifestyle, low sexual activity and, as a result, stagnation of prostate secretions and decreased blood circulation in the pelvic organs. Men over 40 years of age should be especially attentive to prostate health, who, as practice shows, rarely undergo preventive examinations by a urologist," the doctor noted.
The prostate gland plays a key role in the male reproductive system, Kostyunin added. It produces a secret (juice), which is part of the sperm and ensures the motility and nutrition of spermatozoa. With chronic inflammation, the prostate is disrupted, which directly affects fertility and sexual function.
In addition, there is another unpleasant moment associated with chronic prostate inflammation — sexual disorders. In the absence of prostatitis treatment, men may experience decreased libido, pain during ejaculation, and even erectile dysfunction.
"The effects of the disease are not limited to reproductive disorders. Inflammation can become a trigger for the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (adenoma). There is frequent urination, false urges, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the bladder, frequent night trips to the toilet (nocturia). As the adenoma grows, it causes men discomfort and reduces the quality of life," Kostyanin said.
Kostyunin added that incomplete emptying of the bladder can lead to chronic urinary retention, which, in turn, disrupts the functioning of the kidneys. Very often, this condition requires urgent surgery.
"There are several types of chronic prostatitis, and each of them requires special attention from specialists and a thorough diagnosis. Depending on the results, treatment is selected for a specific type of prostatitis," the specialist concluded.
Artur Bogatyrev, a urologist and andrologist at the SM Clinic Center for Reproductive Health, said on February 18 that the full functioning of the male reproductive system largely depends on sufficient intake of vitamins and trace elements. So, first of all, the specialist identified vitamin C. According to him, it is a strong antioxidant that protects cells from the damaging effects of free radicals.
