The State Duma denied the introduction of a self-ban on purchases on marketplaces
They will not introduce a self-ban on online purchases in Russia. This was announced to Izvestia on March 13 by Artem Kiryanov, deputy head of the Duma Committee on Economic Policy.
"Self—locking is not a panacea. What works in the financial sector will not work in everyday life. The idea of introducing a self—ban on online purchases of socks is doomed to oblivion," the MP said.
He called such initiatives a harmful proposal on the verge of nonsense and said that, on the contrary, it is necessary to work on stimulating sales of domestic goods both in Russia and abroad.
"As a representative of the parliamentary committee responsible for the development of the platform economy, I can confidently say that such an initiative will not be discussed even in the first reading, and the government will not support this initiative," the parliamentarian added.
According to him, an artificial slowdown in demand can lead to higher prices and lower availability of goods.
"The purchasing power of the population is falling now. It works better than any self—lock," Kiryanov said.
The parliamentarian believes that in the current conditions it is more important to help entrepreneurs develop, since "almost all small businesses in the field of trade are mainly focused on marketplaces."
"It will be a blow to them, too, and for some it will be almost like a control shot," he concluded.
Earlier, RIA Novosti reported that Russia may introduce a self-ban on purchases on marketplaces, similar to the same mechanism for loans and gambling.
At the end of February, the State Duma reported that Russians had set 22 million self-restrictions on the conclusion of consumer credit and loan agreements in a year.
