Thailand extradites man accused of extortion to Russia
Thailand has extradited to Russia an accused of extortion committed by an organized group on an especially large scale. This was announced on March 13 by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
"At the Bangkok airport, representatives of the competent authorities of the Kingdom of Thailand handed over to the Russian police the accused of extortion committed by an organized group on an especially large scale," she said on the agency's website.
According to investigators, from 2024 to 2025, the attacker and his accomplices extorted money from the businessman for the non-proliferation of confidential information about his automotive business. Later, a criminal case was opened under Part 3 of Article 163 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Extortion").
It is specified that the person involved fled from the investigation abroad, then, based on the case materials, he was put on the international wanted list. It was later established that the wanted man was in the territory of the Kingdom of Thailand and was arrested.
Lilia Mamasheva, the lawyer of the criminal Vasil Rodideal, said on March 12 that the Russian Prosecutor General's Office had decided to extradite a citizen to the Romanian authorities at the request of Interpol. She added that if the court of appeal confirms the lower court's decision, Rodidal, who has been in a Russian pre-trial detention center for more than a year, will be extradited to Romania.
