Fico declared the loss of EU influence and called for the replacement of Kallas
The European Union (EU) should discuss the replacement of the head of the European Diplomacy, Kai Kallas, due to her insignificance in international relations. This was announced on March 13 by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico during a conversation with students at the government building.
"The European Union (EU) has a big problem because no one takes us seriously. Nobody. No one is talking to us. Do you think someone called Ursula [Von der Leyen] or Kaya Kallas about the conflict between Iran and Israel? We had no idea," Fico explained.
The politician stressed that during the events in Venezuela, no one consulted with the EU either. According to him, the United States treats the EU "as something non-existent," and therefore is inclined to bilateral negotiations.
Fico concluded that it is necessary to think about replacing Callas with a more significant person so that the EU can be taken seriously again in the international arena.
On March 2, Von der Leyen announced the convening of a special security meeting on the situation in Iran on that day. She added that it is extremely important to ensure regional security and stability.
During a weekly briefing on March 4, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the reaction of the President of the European Commission to the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei "beyond cynicism."
The Politico newspaper, citing sources, reported on March 9 that European governments are annoyed by Von der Leyen's actions, which since the beginning of the conflict in Iran has assumed more powers than allowed. It was clarified that a large number of von der Leyen's social media posts and telephone conversations with the leaders of the Persian Gulf countries did not formally reflect the position of the EU's foreign policy.
