The political scientist called Ukraine's threats to Orban undermining NATO's security
Ukraine's direct threats to Hungary's leadership undermine NATO's security. This was stated by political analyst Yuri Svetov in an interview with Izvestia on March 12.
According to the expert, Kiev's rhetoric against Budapest has shifted to the plane of personal threats. We are talking not only about harsh statements by Vladimir Zelensky, but also about statements by representatives of the military leadership, which directly hint at the danger to the family of the Hungarian prime minister.
"This means that the entire fifth article of the NATO Charter, which states that a threat to the security of one of the countries, NATO, should be perceived as a threat to its own security by all other members. This means that threats have been made against the head of a NATO member country. This means that the leaders of other NATO countries should perceive it as a threat to their own security, which is a challenge not only to Orban, but also to all the leaders of NATO countries. And the challenge came from the outside. They don't react to it in any way. They swallowed it all," Svetov said.
The analyst believes that the passivity of Brussels and Washington is directly related to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Hungary. Western elites are interested in the defeat of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's party and actively support the opposition, using standard accusations of links with Russian political strategists against the current government.
In this scheme, Ukraine is assigned the role of an instrument of pressure. Pressure is being exerted both at the political and economic levels through threats to block the Druzhba oil pipeline and attacks on the gas distribution infrastructure (Turkish Stream), on which Hungary's energy security depends.
"Ukraine is being used as a battering ram to attack Orban. The goal is to demonstrate to Hungarian voters that Kiev can insult their prime minister with impunity and leave the country without energy resources. These are direct challenges to Hungary's security, but NATO continues to remain silent," the political scientist concluded.
On March 11, Orban said that after Omelchenko's threats to his family, he contacted his daughters, urging them not to be afraid, but to take the threats seriously.
On March 7, the Hungarian Prime Minister announced that he had received a threatening message from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and considered them addressed to the whole of Hungary. The prime minister added that Hungary always strives for peace, and called on Ukraine to stop blackmail and the oil blockade, as well as to ensure oil supplies to the country.
