The infectious disease specialist warned about the danger of hepatitis C
Sergey Ryabov, an infectious disease specialist and deputy chief physician of Dubna Hospital, spoke about the dangerous consequences of hepatitis C. In an interview with Radio 1 on Thursday, March 12, the specialist noted that the hepatitis C virus was discovered only in 1989, and for a long time its nature remained unclear to scientists.
The main danger of infection lies in its asymptomatic course, which is why the disease is often detected in the late stages. The expert noted that hepatitis C is considered a serious and fairly common disease. According to him, the infection is often called a "gentle killer" because it can go on for a long time without obvious symptoms. In about 80% of cases, the acute form of the disease becomes chronic, which eventually leads to serious liver damage.
The specialist explained that fibrosis develops first, when part of the liver cells is replaced by connective tissue, and then cirrhosis may occur, in which the organ loses its ability to perform its detoxification function. He also warned that in some cases, the disease can lead to liver cancer, writes RT.
On March 12, infectious disease specialist Igor Inozemtsev said that the most common way of transmission of hepatitis C is through blood. Infection can occur when using common needles and syringes, as well as during tattoos, piercings, manicures, or medical procedures if the instruments were insufficiently sterile. 360.ru .
Last summer, Vladimir Chulanov, chief freelance specialist in infectious diseases at the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, said that the detection rate of hepatitis C in the Russian Federation has increased in recent years. He also noted that today every child who has been diagnosed with hepatitis C can be immediately included in the treatment program, the Moscow City News agency writes.
At the same time, internist Svetlana Nemova told Izvestia that the symptoms of viral hepatitis depend on the type of virus and the stage of the disease. The main symptoms include jaundice of the skin and eyes, pain in the right hypochondrium, light feces, dark urine, muscle pain, fever up to 39 degrees and general weakness. The symptoms are in many ways similar to the manifestations of non-viral hepatitis.
Earlier, Galina Kozhevnikova, a hepatologist and head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at RUDN University, told NSN how not to get hepatitis through fruits. According to her, hepatitis A virus and other intestinal infections can persist in frozen and fresh fruits. According to her, it is necessary to wash not only frozen fruits and vegetables, but also products that are ready for consumption. Kozhevnikova stressed that bananas and tangerines can also become a "carrier" of diseases if the skins are not washed.
At the same time, the doctor Andrey Zvonovs told Life.ru that hepatitis C is most often now affected by people suffering from drug addiction. The virus is also transmitted sexually if you do not use protective equipment, but such cases are rare.
