- The European Commission has officially requested Ukraine to inspect the Druzhba pipeline
The European Commission (EC) has officially proposed that Ukraine be allowed to inspect the condition of the Druzhba pipeline. This was announced on March 12 by EC representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen.
"I can inform you that we have offered Ukraine a mission to inspect the condition of the pipeline," she said at a briefing recorded on the website of the EC audiovisual service.
Itkonen added that Brussels has not yet received an official response from Kiev to the request.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced on March 11 that the Druzhba oil pipeline could be restored within two months.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported on the same day that Hungarian inspectors who came to inspect the Druzhba gas pipeline did not have the status of a delegation. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that they crossed the border on a general basis, using the visa-free regime that applies to persons from the Schengen area.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on March 5 that the country would defeat Ukraine by force on the issue of the Druzhba oil pipeline and would not compromise. According to him, the Ukrainian side must resume the operation of the pipeline and fulfill its obligations in accordance with the EU Association Agreement.
