The Kazan nuclear-powered submarine missile cruiser of the Northern Fleet fired an Onyx cruise missile at a sea target from an underwater position as part of planned combat training activities. This was announced on March 12 by the press service of the fleet.

The target, which designated the ship of the imaginary enemy, was located at a distance of up to 300 km in the Barents Sea. The published objective control footage shows that the head of the Onyx missile hit a naval target.

Surface ships and naval aviation of the Northern Fleet were involved in closing the territory of the area during the shooting, the press service said.

The Kazan nuclear—powered submarine missile cruiser is a Yasen-M Project 885M ship, a modified version of fourth-generation submarines with a reduced acoustic field level. They carry high-precision long-range missile weapons and are capable of hitting targets on land, on water and underwater.

On February 6, it was reported that practical exercises on fire and tactical training with units of the separate Guards brigade of the Northern Fleet Marines were conducted at a military training ground near the village of Sputnik in the Murmansk region. The Marines practiced teamwork, cross-country maneuvering, and precision shooting.
