The Russian side's abstention from voting on Iran within the framework of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution was conditioned by Moscow's own interests. This was announced on Thursday, March 12, by Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
"Should Russia have used its veto? If you give in to emotions, then yes. But if we follow our own interests, then no, because the Gulf states are for the most part our good partners, just like Iran," he said in a post on his Telegram channel.
