- Russia and China abstained from voting for the resolution on the Middle East in the UN Security Council
On March 11, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution condemning Iran and demanding that Tehran stop attacks on Arab countries.
"The text [of the resolution] "condemns in the strongest terms <...> Iran's attacks" on Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, adding that "such actions constitute a violation of international law and a serious threat," according to a statement on the UN website.
It is specified that the document was adopted by 13 of the 15 participants of the UN Security Council. Russia and China abstained from voting.
Iran's representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, sharply criticized the adopted resolution. According to him, the document reflects the desire of individual members of the Security Council to present what is happening in such a way that the aggressor and the injured party have switched places. Iravani said that such an interpretation of events distorts the real picture of the conflict.
On March 8, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov proposed to convene a summit of the permanent members of the UN Security Council. He stressed that Moscow proceeds from the need to understand the US plans and how they relate to pre-existing norms.
Nebenzia said on March 11 that Bahrain's resolution adopted by the UN Security Council was biased and one-sided. He added that Russia had proposed to the authors of the resolution to condemn attacks not only on the Persian Gulf countries, but also on the territory of Iran, but the proposal was ignored.
Iranian leader Masoud Peseshkian said on March 11 that Iran is committed to peace in the region, but in return demands recognition of its rights, as well as guarantees of non-aggression and reparations from the United States.
