- Lercek was diagnosed with stage four cancer.: what is known about the blogger's condition
Blogger Valeria Chekalina (Lercek) was diagnosed with stage four metastatic stomach cancer shortly after the birth of her fourth child. The girl was admitted to the intensive care unit, she has already undergone spinal surgery, and her relatives report severe pain. For more information, see the Izvestia article.
Accurate diagnosis of Lercek
Blogger Valeria Chekalina (Lercek) was diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer with metastases. This was announced on March 11 by her friend, blogger Alina Akilova in her Telegram channel.
Earlier, on February 26, Chekalina gave birth to a boy, after which she was admitted to the intensive care unit.
"Malignant cells have been found. <...> metastases have been found in the lungs," wrote Luis Squicciarini, the father of her child, on the Instagram social network (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).
He noted that Chekalina underwent many examinations aimed at identifying the cause of the disease. In addition, due to the destruction of several vertebrae, she underwent spinal surgery.
Currently, Lercek is undergoing treatment at the State Cancer Center.
What does beloved Lercek say about her condition
The father of Chekalina's fourth child, Luis Squicciarini, said on social media that the pain that the woman experienced during pregnancy returned almost immediately after her discharge from the hospital.
"During her house arrest due to problems and pains, Lera and her lawyers applied for permission to visit a doctor a year ago, but the investigators and the court refused. We were wasting valuable time," he said.
Squicciarini also noted that he does not know a man who would love life as much as his beloved.
Celebrities about the condition of Lerchek
Lercek's friend Alina Akilova reported that the blogger was in pain and was taking extreme painkillers.
"Her family is dealing with the issue of her treatment. I'm sure everything will end in the best possible way," she wrote on her Telegram channel.
TV presenter Victoria Bonya was outraged that Lercek repeatedly asked for permission to seek medical help, but the court did not grant these requests.
"Lerchek has metastases in her lungs. At the same time, the court denied her the opportunity to go for an examination a year ago, although her health required constant monitoring," Bonya noted on her social networks.
In her opinion, even if Chekalina is now granted relief, the lost time for treatment cannot be returned. Bonya stressed that it is unacceptable to delay the start of treatment for cancer.
Lawyers and social activists on the condition of Lerchek
Chekalina, who had previously been diagnosed with cancer, left the hospital and went home on a receipt to be with her newborn son. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to her lawyer Oleg Badma-Khalgaev. According to him, the blogger is currently at home, and the issue of her participation in the court hearing scheduled for March 16 will be decided depending on her state of health.
Lawyer Ekaterina Gordon expressed the opinion that in order to alleviate the situation of the seriously ill Valeria Chekalina, it is worth replacing her house arrest with a milder measure of restraint — a written undertaking not to leave. According to her, this will allow the blogger to undergo treatment and visit doctors without unnecessary coordination with the investigation and the court. Gordon also stated that she intends to collect signatures in support of Lercek.
A member of the Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC) also said that Lercek should change the measure of restraint. Eva Merkacheva.
"Definitely, because a person with such a diagnosis needs to be constantly in a medical facility," Merkacheva said in an interview with RIA Novosti
According to her, the blogger can at least change the measure of restraint or completely cancel house arrest. At the same time, the human rights defender stressed that the presence of the disease does not mean the termination of criminal prosecution.
"Illness is not a reason to terminate a criminal case. But this is a very good reason to change the preventive measure," Merkacheva said.
The Lercek court case
The criminal case against Valeria Chekalina and her ex-husband Artyom was opened in October 2024. They and an accomplice were suspected of illegally transferring more than 250 million rubles from Russia to Dubai using forged documents (art. 193.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
In May, the tax service issued a new bill to the blogger for more than 28 million rubles. On November 24, the Gagarin Court in Moscow extended the house arrest of Chekalina and her ex-husband for six months.
At a meeting on December 1, Lercek pleaded not guilty to withdrawing funds abroad. She also stated that she did not understand the essence of the charges. At the same time, ex-husband Artem Chekalin admitted that he was guilty of committing a tax crime, but had nothing to do with the withdrawal of funds from Russia.
