Zakharova condemned the EU's silence after the attack on Arctic Metagaz
The Arctic Metagaz gas carrier was attacked in the vicinity of the EU, but no one in Europe condemned the incident. This was announced on March 11 by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
"The attack on a civilian commercial vessel in the Mediterranean Sea is a gross violation of international law," the Russian Foreign Ministry said on its website.
The Russian Foreign Ministry regards the incident as a targeted strike on a civilian facility, which could potentially lead to loss of life and an environmental disaster.
According to the Foreign Ministry, this is tantamount to a terrorist act and a war crime.
An attack by a crewless boat of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Russian gas carrier Arctic Metagaz near Malta was reported on March 4. Later, the Russian Embassy reported that all 30 people who were on board the ship at the time of the attack were rescued by the efforts of the Russian and Maltese sides.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on March 4 that Moscow reserves the right to take political and diplomatic measures in connection with the attack on a Russian gas carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. According to the diplomat, appropriate measures will be considered, including in the context of the threat to international security posed by these actions.
On March 5, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pointed out that there were no attempts to hide the Ukrainian trace in the attack on the Russian gas carrier. Lavrov called the Kiev authorities terrorists. According to him, in addition to physically undermining infrastructure facilities such as the Nord Stream gas pipeline, they are planning attacks on the Turkish Stream and the Blue Stream.
