Florian Philippot, the leader of the French right-wing Patriots party, said on March 11 that the European Union's rejection of the atom was a deliberate strategy by Germany against France's energy sector.

As confirmation of his words, the leader of the Patriots pointed to the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III), adopted in 2023.

This document gives priority to renewable sources such as solar and wind energy, which, according to Philippot, indicates a purposeful policy.

"This 'strategic mistake' concerns not only nuclear energy, but also everything the EU touches! From agriculture to immigration, from freedom of speech to diplomacy, etc.," Philippot added in a message on his social network X (ex. Twitter).

On the same day, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, called the idea of returning energy resources to Russia a strategic mistake. She noted that the European Union (EU) has its own energy sources, including renewable and nuclear.

On the same day, Mark Sleboda, an analyst from the United States, noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin's statement about his readiness to stop supplying energy resources to Europe caused panic in the EU. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on March 7 that European countries would pay the "highest price" for rejecting oil from Russia, while Asian and African countries would be able to receive Russian oil.

On March 9, during a meeting on the situation on the global oil and gas market, Putin said that Russia was ready to work with the Europeans on energy supplies, but signals of their readiness were needed. He clarified that the state can transfer energy supplies from the European market to "more interesting directions" without expecting Europe itself to "demonstratively slam the door" on this initiative.
