Fraudsters are increasingly using a scheme with fake cashback services. Andrey Rybnikov, a lecturer at the Department of Instrumental and Applied Software at the Institute of Information Technology of the Russian Academy of Technical Sciences, MIREA, warned about this on Wednesday, March 11.

"Scammers create clone sites in two ways. The first is a complete copy of the original service's design with domain substitution. The second is the creation of an aggregator site that supposedly collects the best cashback offers, but actually leads to phishing payment pages," Rybnikov said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru .

He clarified that in both cases, the goal is the same: to force you to enter payment details on a resource controlled by fraudsters.

The expert advised checking the registration date of the site — if it was registered recently, you should be wary. He also recommended looking for reviews on third-party resources. At the same time, it is worth paying attention not only to negative messages, but also to the lack of information in principle.

"The easiest way is to look carefully at the address bar. <...> Compare the address with what you entered earlier. The difference of one character is already a reason to close the tab," concluded Rybnikov.

In turn, Timofey Voronin, project manager at Intelligent Analytics, told RT that too many discounts or large cashbacks are most often fraudulent tricks.

On March 6, the Department for Combating the Illegal Use of Information and Communication Technologies (UBK) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs warned that fraudsters were buying or renting sellers' accounts on well-known marketplaces and deceiving victims by stealing payment data.

On February 14, the Russian Interior Ministry listed the main ways in which fraudsters infect phones with malware. One of the schemes involves false calls from mobile operators. The attackers offer to extend the room service agreement and convince the victim to make changes to the banking application. Fraudsters can also pose as bank employees — under the pretext of updating the application or checking cashback, they extort personal data and codes.

Earlier, on February 9, the press service of the Ministry of Public Administration, IT and Communications of the Moscow region said that scammers began sending messages to users about the accrual of cashback. 360.ru .
