There have been 193 road accidents in Russia over the past 24 hours.
Over the past day, 193 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 13 people were killed and 225 injured. Nine of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 11 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
19 accidents involving buses were recorded, in which one person was killed, and 20 more road users, including two children, needed medical help. Seven bus accidents were caused by traffic violations committed by their drivers.
As a result of 74 accidents, 35 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 39 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 72 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 23 underage pedestrians, 16 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places, that is, due to the fault of drivers or their own carelessness.
Over the past day, 30 accidents involving minors have been registered on Russian roads, in which 32 young road users, including eight passengers, were injured. There are no dead children.
In addition, temporary restrictions or traffic closures were introduced in some regions of the country due to adverse weather conditions. So, in the Murmansk region, due to snow, blizzard, strong gusty winds and the resulting visibility restrictions, traffic on three regional highways has been temporarily suspended since yesterday afternoon.
In the Republic of Bashkortostan and the Chelyabinsk Region, since yesterday morning, for the same reasons, traffic has been temporarily restricted for trucks and buses on the M-5 Ural federal highway (Moscow — Ryazan — Penza — Samara — Ufa — Chelyabinsk) from 1,480 km to 1,548 km in Bashkiria, and from 1,548 km to 1,799 km in the neighboring region.
When planning long-distance trips, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that drivers and passengers monitor the weather forecast, as well as media reports from traffic closures or restrictions. In case of a negative forecast, it is recommended to postpone the trip until the weather and traffic conditions improve, and in urban conditions, use public transport services.
"We also draw the attention of motorists that during the arrival of spring and the beginning of the change of seasons, one should be extremely careful when driving a vehicle on a slippery road from rain, snow or ice. Refrain from sudden thoughtless maneuvers and realignments, exclude entering the oncoming traffic lane even in the places allowed for this, observe the interval and distance, and choose the speed limit taking into account the weather conditions," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department of Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
In addition, before a trip of any length, drivers were advised to check the technical condition of their car so that the vehicle would not fail on the way due to an unexpected breakdown.
Earlier that day, the Moscow State Traffic Inspectorate announced a raid at pedestrian crossings, which will take place on March 12. Traffic police officers will monitor compliance with traffic regulations, both by pedestrians and drivers.
