- Customs officers in Sochi stopped a woman for wearing a Rolex watch and Cartier jewelry
Employees of the Main Directorate for Combating Smuggling of the Federal Customs Service (FCS), together with customs personnel, prevented an attempt to illegally import Cartier and Rolex jewelry into Sochi airport. This was announced on March 11 by the Federal Customs Service in its Telegram channel.
The incident occurred with a passenger on a flight from Istanbul, who was detained in the green corridor area. The reason was the lack of a declaration for expensive jewelry — a Rolex watch, a ring and earrings from Cartier.
"The examination has established that the jewelry is original, made of 750 gold alloy. The ring and earrings have diamond inserts," the message says.
The accessory and jewelry were seized, their value was estimated at 7 million rubles.
Law enforcement agencies have opened a case under Part 1 of Article 226.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Smuggling of strategically important goods"). The maximum penalty is imprisonment for up to five years.
On January 16, Vnukovo Airport customs officers prevented the smuggling of $105,000, which a 43-year-old Russian woman who arrived from Georgia was trying to import. According to the department, the woman was stopped on the green corridor, and during an oral interview she confessed to the inspectors that she had the specified amount with her, which she had declared in Tbilisi.
