The bank card registry will not affect bank secrecy
The unified register of bank cards, which is scheduled to be launched in 2027, is needed to account for the total number of cards per person opened in different banks. However, its presence will not affect bank secrecy. This was reported to Izvestia on March 12 by the press service of the Bank of Russia.
The Central Bank explained that banks will have access to a system that will allow them to check whether a customer has exceeded the number of cards, and based on this information, decide whether to issue a new card or refuse to issue it.
"At the same time, information that is essentially a bank secret will remain a bank secret. For example, the bank will not see from the registry how many cards a particular citizen has in other banks and in which ones, the regulator said.
