The authorities of Velikiye Luki and the local diocese will cooperate in the field of sports

In Velikiye Luki, Pskov region, the city administration and the local diocese will establish cooperation in the field of sports. The meeting, which discussed the development of sports in the canonical territory of the diocese and the holding of joint events, took place at the Velikiye Luki Diocesan administration.

Bishop Barnabas of Velikiye Luki and Nevelsky, head of the city committee for Physical Education and Sports Sergey Chechelov, regional coordinator of the United Russia party project "The Choice of the Strong" Vladimir Vladimirov, Secretary of the Velikiye Luki diocese Priest Vadim Yakovlev participated in the discussion, the Pskov News Feed writes with reference to the diocese.

In particular, it was about the organization of the Easter Sports Festival. The Pskov Archdiocese has scheduled it to be held from May 1 to May 3. In addition, other Orthodox sporting events were discussed. The Velikiye Luki Diocese and the city administration will work together to rehabilitate the soldiers participating in the SVR.

Earlier it was reported that the first Diocesan Church Museum in the Pskov region was created in Velikiye Luki. Its opening took place on May 14, 2025, on the eve of the International Museum Day. The museum is located on the second floor of the Velikiye Luki Diocese building. The museum's exposition includes ancient icons, handwritten notes for the church choir, pre–revolutionary church books, clerical vestments, church newspapers and magazines of the XIX-XX centuries, crosses of clergymen who died during the years of repression.
