Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on March 11 on the statement by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen about Russian gas.

The diplomat noted that von der Leyen called the hypothetical return of the European Union (EU) to purchases of Russian gas a "strategic mistake."

"She forgot to add, 'because I helped the European Union not to go into a dive,'" Zakharova wrote on her Telegram channel.

Von der Leyen concluded earlier on March 11 that Europe's return to energy resources from Russia would make the region's countries vulnerable, dependent and weak.
She pointed out that the EU has its own energy sources, including renewable and nuclear.

Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy for investment and economic cooperation with foreign countries, said on March 6 that von der Leyen's failures in the energy sector would haunt her. This is how the politician commented on the news that the head of the EU promised to follow the course of Brussels to abandon fossil fuels and accelerate the transition to a green economy.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
