The media learned about Washington's demands for South Africa's withdrawal from the BRICS

The United States has put forward a number of demands to South Africa, including withdrawing from BRICS and "adhering to the policy of non-alignment," but has not received a response from the South African government. This was reported on 11 by the TimesLIVE newspaper, citing a statement by the American ambassador to the country, Leo Brent Bozell.

"When I spoke with the president [of the United States Donald Trump], he had only one assignment, and it was extremely simple. He said: "I want South Africa to become a non-aligned country again." Non—alignment is not a big request," the American diplomat said.

The growing interaction of South Africa with the BRICS countries, some of which "do not share American democratic values," is causing concern on the part of American investors, the diplomat argues.

He noted that South Africa is the largest trade and investment partner of the United States among the countries of sub-Saharan Africa. Other U.S. demands to the South African government include domestic political and economic reforms aimed at protecting the white population and expanding black economic opportunities.

In addition, the United States wants South Africa to withdraw its charges against Israel for genocide in the Gaza Strip, filed with the International Court of Justice in 2023.

"I will tell you that our position was very firm. <...> We have handed them over to the South African government. We have been waiting for a response for almost a year now. As I have already made clear in the meetings, the patience of the United States is running out. We are increasingly convinced that the South African government's refusal to answer our simple questions is becoming a statement," Bozell said.
