Chinese carmaker BYD is thinking about joining Formula 1
The Chinese car company BYD is considering options for participating in world-class auto racing, including the Formula 1 championship and daily marathons such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing its sources.
According to them, BYD is considering various options due to the company's rapid growth outside the domestic market and the trend towards the use of hybrid engines in motorsport.
The interlocutors of the publication note that the potential costs of participating in Formula 1 can be a serious obstacle for BYD. The status of a participant in the World Cup requires many years of preparation, participation in races costs hundreds of millions of dollars per season.
At the moment, the global motorsport is dominated by European and American brands. There are few examples of Chinese brands appearing in races of this level. In particular, Geely participates in bodywork competitions through the Cyan Racing team (formerly known as the Volvo factory team), and Nio has participated in the Formula E electric series since 2014.
In 2025, BYD became the largest electric vehicle manufacturer in the world, with shipments of 4.6 million units, up 7.7% from 2024.
The day before it was reported that Renault has published images of a new conceptual crossover Bridger. Next year, the model will be mass-produced, and it should play a key role in the brand's international expansion plans.
