The expert gave advice on proper financial wedding planning.
The main mistake couples make is that they often take out consumer loans to arrange a wedding, which leads to financial difficulties. Ilya Rusyaev, a business consultant and founder of the Rusyaev Club, told Izvestia on March 15.
According to the expert, a classic wedding for 25-30 people in Moscow today costs from 600 thousand to 800 thousand rubles, in the regions prices are 30-50% lower. Rusyaev noted that the gap between the desires of the newlyweds and their real financial capabilities is increasing every year, which leads to a choice between a modest format and borrowed money.
The most expensive item of expenditure is the rental of a banquet site, which accounts for 30-35% of the total budget, Rusyaev added. For a wedding for 30 people, this is from 150 thousand to 450 thousand rubles, depending on the city and the level of the restaurant. Decor and floristry occupy the second place in terms of cost — decoration can take up to 26% of the budget, and prices for fresh flowers have increased by 12-13% over the past year.
Rusyaev also stressed that newlyweds often underestimated three key items of expenditure: alcohol, technical equipment and entertainment, as well as transportation for guests, especially if the wedding takes place outside the city.
"The main financial mistake of the newlyweds is that they take out a consumer loan for a celebration. <...> A holiday loan, unlike a mortgage, does not create any asset that could be realized," the expert noted.
According to him, the best practical advice for couples is to set a budget in advance, set priorities, and sign contracts with contractors in advance before prices rise. If the monthly payments on all loans exceed 30% of the couple's total income, it is better to abandon borrowed funds for the wedding in favor of a more intimate format.
According to a study by the online psychotherapy service Yasno, more than 60% of Russians consider holding a wedding to be an overrated event, and almost half fear that preparations for the celebration may lead to a breakup. It was noted that 2,000 Russians aged 18 to 55 from different regions of the country took part in the survey.
