Arshinov trading house to be restored in Tverskoy district of Moscow

The restoration of the V.F. Arshinov trading house, a monument to early Moscow Art Nouveau, has begun in the Tverskoy district of the capital, said Deputy Mayor Natalia Sergunina.

"The house was built according to the project of architect Fyodor Shekhtel. It stands out thanks to an arched window three stories high. Specialists will put both the facades and the interiors in order," Sergunina said.

The stone base, tiles and decorative elements will be restored outside, and cast-iron columns with capitals, skylights and stairs will be installed inside.

The building, located in Staropansky Lane, has the status of a cultural heritage site of federal significance. It was built in 1899 for Vasily Arshinov, a Moscow merchant of the first guild, who was engaged in the cloth trade. The facades are decorated with gray-green ceramic tiles and white decorative stucco details. This color scheme is typical for Fyodor Shekhtel's projects of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The frame structure made of metal and brick corresponds to the architectural concept that developed in Russia in the middle of the 19th century for factory buildings. There was a spacious hall on each floor. A huge window served as a showcase for goods. In the mid-1920s, the Central Committee of the Trade Union of Railway and Water Transport Workers was located here, and then the publishing house "Air Transport".

Over the past 15 years, about 2.5 thousand architectural monuments have been put in order in the capital. It is planned to renovate 700 more facilities by 2030.
